GEORGE TOWN: The Ministry of Transport has approved Penang’s plan to build a 30km Light Rail Transit (LRT).
However, the project must meet 30 conditions, said minister Loke Siew Fook.
They include the social, heritage and traffic impact assessments as well as other technical requirements.
He said the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) would display related documents for public viewing for the next three months.
Loke said the locations would be advertised in newspapers, and hoped the state government would also publish the documents online.
The LRT line in Bayan Lepas will be built in two phases. The first is 23.5km long with 20 stations, while the second phase is 6.4km long with seven stations.
The project will be financed through the sale of three reclaimed islands to be created by the Penang government through its project delivery partner, SRS Consortium.
